1. Scope and who is responsible
This policy explains how Spool handles information when you use the Spool iOS app or this website. “Spool,” “we,” and “us” refer to the independent developer of the Spool app. Spool does not operate a central account, advertising or analytics database for your viewing activity.
2. Information the app handles
- Library and viewing data: titles, watchlist status, episode progress, watch events, collection membership, ratings, preferences and recommendation feedback.
- Imported data: records you choose to import from TV Time, Letterboxd or Trakt, including title identifiers and viewing dates.
- Connection data: device names and pairing details for Apple TV, plus tokens and details for optional Plex and Trakt integrations.
- Playback data: title, episode and originating app metadata reported by an Apple TV or Plex server while Spool is active.
- Preferences: country, favourite genres, onboarding status and app settings.
- Subscription status: StoreKit provides a verified indication of whether Spool Club is active and whether an introductory offer is available. Apple processes payment details; Spool does not receive your card number.
3. Where information is stored
Spool stores your library and settings locally on your device. When iCloud is available, library data is synced through the app’s private CloudKit database. The Spool developer does not receive a dashboard or general-purpose access to read it.
Apple TV pairing credentials and optional Plex and Trakt tokens are stored in the iOS Keychain. Imported files are read to update your library and are not uploaded to a Spool-operated server.
4. Network access and local devices
If you choose Apple TV or Plex connections, Spool uses local network access to discover and communicate with devices and servers on your network. Spool checks eligible now-playing metadata only while the app is active. You can disconnect saved devices from Settings.
5. Third-party services
Spool sends requests to third parties only as needed to provide features you use. Those services may receive standard network information and are governed by their own policies.
TheTVDB is Spool’s catalogue provider. Spool does not fetch streaming-provider availability; a title can be sent to JustWatch only when you choose its outbound search link. Trakt and Plex are used only if you choose to connect them.
6. How information is used
Information is used to maintain your library and progress, refresh metadata, personalise on-device recommendations, import history, sync devices, verify access to Spool Club and support optional connections. Spool does not sell personal information or use viewing activity for third-party advertising.
7. Retention, deletion and your choices
Library records remain until you remove them. Disconnecting a service removes its stored credential. You can remove imported TV Time data with the dedicated cleanup control and manage Spool’s iCloud data through Apple settings.
Because the developer does not operate a central copy of your private library, there may be no developer-held library record to access or delete. Requests about third-party data should be directed to that service.
8. Children
Spool is a general-audience watchlist app and is not directed to children under 13. Spool does not knowingly collect children’s personal information into a developer-operated service.
9. Security and changes
Spool uses platform protections including the iOS Keychain, private CloudKit storage and transport security. No method is guaranteed to be completely secure. This policy may be updated as features or legal requirements change.
10. Contact
For privacy questions, contact the developer through the App Support contact on Spool’s App Store listing. Please do not send passwords, access tokens or imported viewing files.
